Diesel or Automotive Mechanic - Freeport and Hempstead Schools

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Diesel or Automotive Mechanic to join our team at First Student. As the largest school transportation provider in North America, we offer a stable and rewarding work environment. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing school buses to ensure safety and vehicle readiness. Your role will involve assisting with preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and performing vehicle and equipment repairs. In addition, you will have the opportunity to guide lower-level technicians and participate in state-of-the-art training programs provided by the company.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance checks.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle components such as brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
• Ensure accurate completion of work orders and provide mobile emergency services support.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license; willingness to obtain CDL while employed.
• 1-5 years of automotive or diesel maintenance experience or technical school education.
• Own a mechanic's tool set and participate in the ASE certification program.
• Compliance with DOT drug testing requirements.
